The clarinet masterclass 2026 is led by internationally renowned musicians Hermann Stefánsson and Sharon Kam together with pianist Mårten Landström. Welcome to a summer academy in the beautiful Norrbotten countryside at Framnäs Folk High School.
As a participant at Piteå Summer Academy, you will receive advanced-level instruction led by renowned musical masters with extensive experience. Here, musicians gather for an intensive period of learning and development.
The lessons are held in English and consist of both group and individual instruction.
Piteå Summer Academy is arranged by Framnäs Folk High School in collaboration with the Piteå Festival.
Sharon Kam
Sharon Kam has worked as a professor of clarinet at the Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover since 2022.
Her recordings have been praised by critics and awarded many prizes, including the Deutsche Schallplattenkritik, Diapason d'Or, and the Echo and Opus prizes.
Hermann Stefánsson
Hermann Stefánsson is principal clarinetist in the Royal Swedish Philharmonic Orchestra. He has been a professor at the Royal Swedish Academy of Music, a visiting professor at the Musikalodka academies in Lodz, Poland and Sarajevo, Bosnia.
Stefánsson was educated at Framnäs Folk High School and Piteå College of Music, where he studied with Curth Forsberg. He has also studied with Yehuda Gilad in Los Angeles.
Mårten Landström
Mårten Landström is an acclaimed concert pianist. He is concertmaster of Norrbotten NEO and a member of the ensemble since its founding in 2007. Since the mid-1990s he has also been a member of the contemporary music ensembles Peärls Before Swïne Experience and Gageego!.
After completing his studies in Stockholm and London, he has mainly focused on contemporary art music but at the same time has an extensive range of genres and also performs with, for example, the Norrbotten Chamber Orchestra and the Piteå Chamber Opera. He teaches at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and at the Piteå Academy of Music.

PRICE FOR THE COURSE
The course is free of charge. To keep your place if you are accepted, you pay a service fee of 600 SEK. The fee includes certain administrative costs, coffee, and afternoon tea.
ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD AT FRAMNÄS
Accommodation with full board (breakfast, lunch and dinner): 985 SEK/day
Accommodation with breakfast: 555 SEK/day
Accommodation only: 450 SEK/day
You pay for your stay at Framnäs reception when you arrive. We prefer payment by card.
We reserve the right to require at least 10 guests with full board for the restaurant to be open.
The accommodation offers self-catering options. Approximately two kilometers from Framnäs there are two grocery stores, a café and two restaurants.
Bed linen and towels are included in the prices.
Traveling to FRAMNÄS
Framnäs Folkhögskola is located in Öjebyn, about ten minutes by bus from central Piteå. You can travel to Piteå by plane to Luleå Airport or by train to either Älvsbyn or central Luleå.
