Masterclass Clarinet

We are pleased to welcome you to the international clarinet masterclasses with Hermann Stefánsson, John Kruse, Yehuda Gilad and Vicente Alberola.


The masterclasses will take place during two weekends this spring at the Framnäs folkhögskola in the north of Sweden. You apply to the complete course, it’s not possible to only apply to one teacher/masterclass. We welcome clarinetists from all over the world with the minimum age of 18 years. We are looking forward to a great masterclass that we are proud to offer!

Teachers at the courses are:

  • Hermann Stefánsson, Solo clarinetist at the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and Professor at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Stefánsson is also a member of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Wind Quintet and the Swedish Serenade Ensemble. He has been a soloist with many Swedish and non-Swedish orchestras, including the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.
  • Yehuda Gilad, founder and professor of clarinet at the Colburn Conservatory and professor at USC. Mr. Gilad students occupy positions in over 100 orchestras world wide, prize winners of major international competitions and professors in leading schools worldwide. Gilad is a recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Distinguished Teacher Award from the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars and USC’s highest honor for excellence in teaching.
  • John Kruse is solo clarinettist in the Royal Danish Orchestra. He was engaged in 2005 after 16 years as solo clarinettist in the Odense Symphony Orchestra. He trained at the Carl Nielsen Academy of Music in Odense and at the Paris Conservatoire with Professor Guy Deplus. John Kruse has recorded several CDs, including new Danish music for clarinet, Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time, Mozart’s music for basset horn and Mozart’s and Carl Nielsen’s concertos for clarinet and orchestra. John Kruse has  been of the jury in the first five Carl Nielsen International Clarinet Competitions. John Kruse has received the Jacob Gade and Holger Bruusgaard Grant. Since 2008 teacher at Royal Danish Academy of Music. From April 2021 associate professor same place.
  • Vicente Alberola is the principal clarinet of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and ”Les Dissonances” Paris. His studied with Walter Boeykens at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp and at the same time with George Pieterson (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) and Larry Combs (Chicago Symphony Orchestra). Alberola was for more than 20 years the principal clarinetist of the Opera Orchestra of Madrid and Galicia. During the past decade he has been guest principal clarinet with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, New York Philharmonic Orchestra, Lucerne Festival Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Orchestre Les Dissonances and MMCK Tokyo Orchestra, where he has had the opportunity to play the great repertoire Symphony under Claudio Abbado, Mariss Jansons, Riccardo Muti, Daniele Gatti, Daniel Harding, Andris Nelsons, Gustavo Dudamel, and Alan Gilbert, Nicola Luisotti, among others. He played with the Hagen Quartet, Cuarteto Casals and Prazak Quartet. Also he was invited at the Beethoven Festival to play with Tabea Zimerman Beethoven septet and schubert Octtet. Vicente Alberola is currently a professor at UAX Madrid University and at his own MMCV Valencia Academy.

The course is free of charge but there is an application fee (500 SEK) for the students who are accepted.



Food and accommodation per day: 750 SEK

Accomodation with bedding and breakfast included: 500 SEK

Accomodation with bedding included: 415 SEK.

You pay at the reception upon your arrival. We prefer to receive card payment. If the restaurant is to be open, we must have at least 10 guests registered for both food and accommodation.
